Check out the latest challenge – STAG ! Here is my take: I love this cue, but boy did I struggle. I think mostly because the idea I immediately came up with was waaaay to similar to a card I did recently (recently” being a wierd term to use on a card that is 5months ago…but I haven’t been stamping much so it was still fresh in my mind). Anyway, I stamped and trashed a couple ideas trying not to repeat the design. Thankfully, my brain finally kicked into gear and came up with enough changes that the card felt different enough to be new. Here is my take: For the bird, I stamped it on grey paper (so I could see the image) and cut it out making sure to follow the little tufts of feathers because I knew this would be a silhouette. Once cut, I flipped it over and inked the paper with black ink and marker. Check out the latest challenge – DRY ! Here is my take: This challenge cue had me looking at my hands. I’m not really good with using lotion so my hands look like a cracked dry desert. So that is where my mind was when picking images for this challenge. I used a crackle texture as the background behind the sentiment. To get a not-hard edge, I inked the image with a sponge (and not all of the image was inked). The Yee Haw stamp set is one of those Stampin’Up put out when they were dabbling in photopolymer. I bought it mostly to support the effort, but I really do love this set. You have a few more days to get your card made – hope you join us! Check out the latest challenge – Spice ! Here is my take: Not only does my card have pattern paper, but it also has a shaker on it — and I think it is still a good CAS style – yay! The shaker and spice idea actually came from someone else…though I can’t find the original card – it was very cool – it had the word SEASONS” die cut and behind each letter was a different spice (I can only image how good that smelled!!). I took that idea but made a simpler shaker and added some ground cloves (this card smells so cozy!). Here is a close-up of the shaker: I chose to use a cream colored card base because I wanted a warmer feel than the stark white (and I get the added benefit that the whipped cream pops). Check out the latest challenge: I played this original sketch challenge! I wasn’t sure what to do with the sketch this time – partly because I was so awed by YoonYoung’s gorgeous card – our design team is awesome! I did finally come up with this design: I got lucky: this stamp set is a Stampin’Up distinctive one which means the trees are only stamped with one green color, but you get variation to give it depth – yay! This is how my brain works: I thought oh, I’ll do a frame around the main image. I check my supply stash – but I don’t have anything that matches what I had in mind (thicker and woodgrain). So I make my own with some rectangle dies; the best I can do is a thin frame. Gingerly, I adhere the frame to the front of the main panel. Now that I’m sitting here looking at the image I realize the frame is so thin, it doesn’t really add anything as a frame and it would have been much easier to just make a mat layer. sigh. Despite that, I am quite happy with the resulting card. When I was putting together my Stampin’Up order, I debated back and forth a few times about the snowflake stamps & dies….I mean I don’t NEED more, I have some…ok lots. But I must say, I am very happy that I decided for them. These two that I used are the smallest in the set, but they are such a classic style! I hope you join us at CAS Colours & Sketches!
